Saharanpur Muharram Ka Juloos: On the occasion of Muharram in Nanauta area of the district, one person died due to allegedly contaminated syrup and eating other things, and more than 75 people became ill. Police gave this information. According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Shabi Haider (60), a resident of Sheikhzadgan Mohalla of Nanauta police station area.
District Magistrate Manish Bansal said that on Saturday evening, on the occasion of the Matami procession of Muharram in a locality of Nanauta town, people of the Muslim community had consumed biryani and syrup after which about 75 people started vomiting and other problems.
Bansal said that he was immediately admitted to the Primary Health Center and District Hospital. He said that Shabi Haider, who was a victim of food poisoning, was being taken to a medical center for treatment but he died on the way. Bansal said that samples of food items used on the procession have been sent for examination and patients are being provided necessary medical facilities.
