Lucknow, Amrit Vichar: A large crowd throngs the Bada Shivala of Old Lucknow on Monday, especially the month of Sawan. This temple is also very important for Shiva devotees. The foundation of this pagoda was laid during the Mughal reign.
Riddhi Kishore Gaur says that the days when Emperor Asifuddaula Bada Imambara was being built on the banks of Gomti, Bada Shivala also started getting ready in the old city. The special thing about Bada Shivala is that Shivalinga was first established here and the temple building was built later. The reason for this is that there is such a big Shivling here that it cannot be established there after the temple is built.
Bada Shivala’s Shivling is the largest Shivling in North India. 108 Shivling are installed around this Shivling. Its special thing is that if someone anoints with water on the big Shivling, then he also reaches 108 Shivling. Like Shivalinga, this temple is also the largest temple in North India. Bada Shivala was founded in Sankata Devi temple by Kashmiri Pandits. Currently, the Chairman of the Temple Committee, Dinesh Tandon and member Rakesh Keshav, takes care of it. Pandit Vijay Pradosh Mandal conducts Rudrabhishek throughout the month in Sawan. Thousands of Shiva devotees gather in this temple during Sawan.
