Married women will observe Hartalika Teej fast on 6th September (Friday) for the long life of their husband and happy married life. This year, there is a combination of Ravi Yog, Shukla Yog along with Hasta Nakshatra and Chitra Nakshatra on Hartalika Teej. Which is considered very auspicious. On this day, women observe a Nirjala fast and duly worship Goddess Parvati and Lord Shiva. After worshipping and meditating the whole day, they worship during Pradosh period. Hartalika Teej fast is observed on the Tritiya Tithi of Shukla Paksha of Bhadrapada month. Tritiya Tithi is starting on 5th September at 12.21 pm, which will end on 6th September at 3.01 pm. In such a situation, on the basis of Udaya Tithi, Hartalika Teej will be celebrated on 6th September, Friday.
Mother Parvati had kept a fast to get Lord Shiva
It is believed that this fast was first observed by Goddess Parvati to attain Lord Shiva. On this day, married women observe this fast for the long life and good health of their husbands and unmarried girls observe this fast to get their desired life partner.
On Hartalika Teej, worship is done for 5 prahars, Shivlingas are made of clay
On Hartalika Teej, worship is done five times a day, i.e. five prahars. Clay Shivlingas are made. After Teej, on the morning of Chaturthi, clay idols of Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvati and Lord Ganesha are worshipped. After the worship, these idols are immersed in a river, pond or any other water source. After this worship, charity is done and then women consume food and water.
Mythological beliefs related to Hartalika Teej
Goddess Parvati is the ruler of Teej or Tritiya Tithi. There is a mythological belief regarding Hartalika Teej Vrat that Goddess Parvati was the first one to observe this fast. Parvati wanted to have Lord Shiva as her husband and to fulfil this wish, the Goddess started rigorous penance from Hartalika Teej. Lord Shiva was pleased with the Goddess’ penance and granted her the boon she desired. After this, Parvati and Lord Shiva got married.
