Pantnagar, Amrit Vichar. The festival of Karva Chauth (Karak Chaturthi), a symbol of faith of married women for the longevity of their spouse, will be celebrated on 20 October. This festival is celebrated on the Chaturthi date of Krishna Paksha of Kartik month, when women observe Nirjala fast for unbroken good fortune and good health of their husbands.
According to astrologer Dr. Manju Joshi, this year a special yoga is being formed on Karva Chauth. Moon God will be in exalted position in Taurus sign, while his conjunction with Dev Guru Jupiter will form Gajakesari Yoga. Women will experience special mental peace due to the influence of Rohini Nakshatra. The position of Saturn in Aquarius will increase happiness and prosperity, and the Sun-Mercury conjunction is also creating Budhaditya Yoga.
puja time
With the decay of Chaturthi Tithi, the auspicious time of Karva Chauth Puja will be from 5:46 pm to 7:02 pm. The time of moonrise will be 8:49 pm, which may vary from state to state.
Before sunrise, after retiring from daily work, take bath, do sixteen adornments and take a pledge to fast. Keep a waterless fast from sunrise to moonrise in the morning and break the fast after seeing the moon.
method of worship
There is a special tradition of worshiping Shiva family on Karva Chauth. During the auspicious time of puja, make Chaith Mata or Maa Gaura, Lord Shiva and Ganesh ji sit on the seat and offer Roli, Kumkum, Akshat, flowers, incense-lamp, Naivedya, Panchamrit, Panch dry fruits and Panch sweets. Fill an earthen vessel with water, light a ghee-filled lamp and read the fast story. Give the puja material as a gift to a married woman.
After full moonrise, look at the moon through a sieve and break the fast by drinking refreshments from the husband’s hand.
Importance of seeing the moon through a sieve
On the day of Karva Chauth, married women look at the moon before going through the sieve and then look at their husbands. This practice is done to wish for the long life of the husband. Seeing the moon through a sieve means maintaining the purity of love, just as impurities get separated after passing through a sieve.
Thus, the festival of Karva Chauth not only strengthens the relationship between husband and wife, but also brings happiness and prosperity to the family.
