Pitru Paksha, also known as Shradh, is performed for the peace of the souls of our ancestors. Shradh Paksha is considered very auspicious for the worship and tarpan of ancestors. Acharya Ashok Pandey said that during Pitru Paksha, our ancestors come to earth from Pitru Lok. Therefore, it is customary to perform their Shradh, Tarpan and Pinddaan etc. on these days. It is believed that by performing Shradh of ancestors, a person attains salvation. This time Pitru Paksha is starting from 17th September and will continue till 2nd October. Keeping reverence towards your ancestors, it is very important to perform Pitru Tarpan and Shradh rituals in Ashwin Krishna Paksha. This gives health, prosperity, age, happiness, peace, growth of progeny and good children. It is called Shradh because it is performed with devotion. Also keep in mind that Shradh rituals are performed in the afternoon Vyapini Tithi.
