During this time, people remember their ancestors and perform their Shraddha, Tarpan and Pinddaan. It is believed that by doing this, the ancestors become happy and bless them. According to the Panchang, the Krishna Paksha of the month of Ashwin is dedicated to the ancestors.

Simple method of Tarpana-
During Pitru Paksha, wake up early in the morning and take a bath, then wear clean clothes. Now put water, flowers, kusha, rice and sesame seeds in a pot and offer water to the ancestors. After this, chant the Pitru Mantra and recite Pitru Chalisa. During Tarpan, face the east direction and perform Tarpan. Pray for the peace of the ancestors. Now face the north direction and perform Tarpan with barley and kusha. After this, apologize to the ancestors for the mistakes made in the worship. Do donate according to your capacity on this day. Doing this is considered good, along with this, do chant these mantras.

4. Gotra Asmatpita (Name of ancestors) Sharma Vasurupat Tripyatamidam Tilodakam
Ganga Jalam wa Tasmai Swadha Namah, Tasmai Swadha Namah, Tasmai Swadha Namah.
5. Om Pitriganaya Vidmahe Jagat Dharini Dhimahi Tanno Pitro Prachodayat.
ॐ देवतभ्याः पित्रभ्याश्च महायोगिभ्या एव च. Namah Swahaayai Swadhaayai Nityameva Namo Namah.
