According to Padma Purana, it has been called the umbrella of Tirtharaja Prayag and the king of trees. According to mythological beliefs, Lord Brahma was the first to perform the Yagya in the Havankund built below Akshayavat. In this Yagya, 33 crore Gods and Goddesses including Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh participated. Since then this city is known as Prayag. Actually, Pra means first and Yag means yagya, that is, Prayag is the first place of yagya.
