Deepak Mishra, Mohanpura. According to the Hindu calendar, there are a total of two Ekadashis of Krishna and Shukla Paksha every month. Each Ekadashi has its own special significance, but Krishna Paksha Ekadashi of Paush month, which is called Putrada Ekadashi, is said to have special significance in the Puranas. It is also known as Vaikuntha Ekadashi. This is the first Ekadashi of the year 2025. However, Putrada Ekadashi falls twice a year in the months of Pausha and Shravan.
According to mythology, women who observe this fast as per the rituals get the blessings of Lord Vishnu and all their wishes related to their children are fulfilled. After completing the Putrada Ekadashi fast, it is considered complete only if the fast is broken on Dwadashi the next day.
Special fruitful fast for having a child
According to the Puranas, King Suketuman and Queen Shaivya observed this fast as per the rituals under the guidance of sages, with the wish of having a child. As a result, they got a healthy, brave and successful prince. Since then, it is believed that if a childless couple observes a fast with full dedication after performing the puja properly, then they attain virtues similar to the Vajpayee Yagya.
Lord Vishnu is worshiped on Putrada Ekadashi. This fast is considered especially fruitful for the birth of children and their well-being. Observing this fast not only brings happiness from children but also removes other problems of life – Satya Prakash Mishra, educationist and retired principal.

Ekadashi Start: Thursday, January 9, 2025, 12:22 pm.
Ekadashi ends: Friday, January 10, 2025, 10:19 am.
Day of Fast: Due to the influence of Udaya Tithi, the fast will be observed on Friday, January 10, 2025.
fasting method
In the morning, after retiring from daily activities, take bath before sunrise and wear clean clothes.
Bathe the idol of Lord Vishnu with Ganga water. After that, take a pledge to observe the fast by offering flowers, basil leaves, yellow clothes and sweets.
Childless couples wish to have a child and take a pledge to complete the fast properly.
Read or listen to the story of Putrada Ekadashi and narrate it to others as much as possible.
Do not consume food during the fast. Take only fruits and water.
Follow truth, non-violence and restraint till the end of the fast.
Keep your mind away from bad thoughts and bad actions.

Break the fast on Saturday, January 11, 2025 from 7:15 am to 8:21 am.
Take bath in the morning and wear yellow clothes.
Purify the place of worship with Ganga water and worship Lord Vishnu and Mother Lakshmi.
Offer kheer, fruits and sweets as bhog and distribute it as prasad.
Donate clothes, grains or other essential items as per your devotion.
By observing Putrada Ekadashi fast, one gets the blessings of Lord Vishnu, which fulfills the wishes of happiness, peace and children in life.
