According to mythology, Hanuman ji set fire to the whole of Lanka to taste Ravana and then extinguished the fire of his tail by jumping into the sea after burning Lanka. But even after extinguishing the fire in his tail with that water, he was feeling very jealous in his tail. Then Hanuman ji requested Ram ji to tell the treatment of his burnt tail. Then Lord Shri Rama described Hanuman ji as a place. He asked Hanuman ji to go to the Chitrakoot mountain, where the stream of cold lin like nectar keeps falling continuously. Ranji said that by putting his tail in that drain there, he will get rid of this suffering.
According to Ramji’s words, Hanuman ji came to Chitrakoot and recited Sri Rama Raksha Stroth 1008 times on a hill of Vindhya mountain range. As soon as his text was completed, a stream of water appeared from above. As soon as the stream of water fell on the body, Hanuman ji’s body got coolness. Even today, that water stream continues to fall here, which is known as Hanuman Dhara. The water of this river comes out of its origin and merges into the mountain itself. People call it Prabhati River or Hades Ganga. Even today it is located about 6 km from Ramghat at the beginning of Vindhya Mountains in Chitrakoot. There are many other pilgrimage sites at this place, such as Sita Kund, Gupta Godavari, Anasuiya Ashram, Bharatkup etc. At this place there is a huge temple of Hanuman ji on the top of the mountain and the idol of Hanuman ji is installed there in such a way that even today it is miraculous holy and cold water from the mountain and bathing the tail of the idol of Hanuman ji in the pond She goes away. By the way, till date no one has been able to find a source of continuous flow of water falling on the idol of Hanuman ji and merging it.
Even today this place is seen as a sacred pilgrimage site and thousands of tourists come here. The water here is considered very divine and like nectar and never dries up. People are cured by stomach related diseases only by taking bath in this water. Sita ji’s utensils are also seen in Sita kitchen at this place. According to mythology, Sita ji had given food to Brahmins here. This place is very beautiful to look at and also very important from religious terms.
