According to the Hindu calendar, Pradosh Vrat falls on Trayodashi tithi of every month. Various fasts are mentioned to obtain the blessings of Lord Shiva. The main fast among them is that of Pradosh. This fast is observed on Pradosh Vyapini Trayodashi tithi in both the fortnights of the lunar month. At present Ashwin month is going on. The first Pradosh fast of Ashwin month is on 29th September. Pradosh Vrat falling on Sunday is known as Ravi Pradosh Vrat. This date is dedicated to Lord Shiva. On this day, worship is done with rituals to please Lord Shiva. By observing Pradosh fast, Lord Shiva removes all the sorrows and sufferings of his devotees. It is believed that during Pradosh period, Lord Shankar dances on Mount Kailash and the gods sing his praises. It is believed that by observing Pradosh fast, Lord Shiva removes all the sorrows of his devotees. In Pradosh Vrat, worship during Pradosh period has special significance.
