If you do Rudrabhishek in the house on Mahashivaratri, then first you should keep the Shivling in the north direction of the place of worship and the devotee should face the east direction. After this, add Ganga water for Abhishek and start Rudrabhishek. Then anoint the Shivling with all the substances including sugarcane juice, honey, curd, milk i.e. Panchamrit from Achmani.
While consecrating Lord Bholenath, Mahamrityunjaya Mantra Om Namah: Shiva or Rudrashtakam Mantra. Apply sandalwood paste on the Shivling and then offer all the things like betel leaf, bell and offer it to Lord Shiva. Keep dishes for the enjoyment of Lord Shiva and offer it to everyone one by one on the Shivling, after which chant the mantra of Shiva 108 times and then perform the Aarti of Mahadev with the whole family.
