Sharad Purnima is also known as Kojagiri Purnima. After Kojagiri fast and worship of Goddess Lakshmi, Makhana and Batashe are distributed to the people as Prasad. The tradition of playing Kaudi is followed on this night. There is a religious belief that cowries originate from the sea and cowries are dear to Goddess Lakshmi. For this reason devotees offer cowries during their worship.

Importance of worship and bathing.

There is a tradition of bathing in holy rivers, charity and worship on Sharad Purnima. It is believed that whoever takes a bath in the Ganga on the day of Sharad Purnima gets special blessings of God. In such a situation, along with the Moon, Goddess Lakshmi should also be worshiped on Sharad Purnima. Sharad Purnima 2024 date and auspicious time
Due to increasing and decreasing dates, this year Sharad Purnima Tithi will be on two days i.e. 16th and 17th October. According to the calculations of the Vedic calendar, Sharad Purnima of Ashwin month will start at around 8 pm on October 16. Which will remain till 5 pm on 17th October. However, the festival of Sharad Purnima is celebrated only at night, hence this festival will be celebrated only on 16 October. The new Hindu month Kartik Shukla Pratipada will start after 5 pm on 17th October. The time of moonrise on Sharad Purnima will be around 5 pm.
