Sharad Purnima is on 16 October. Pandit Saurabh Kumar Mishra of Jagannath Temple told that it is celebrated every year on the full moon date of Shukla Paksha of Ashwin month. According to the Hindu calendar, there are 12 Purnima Tithis in a year. Sharad Purnima has special significance in this. Sharad Purnima is also known as Raas Purnima and Kojagar Purnima. It is believed that on the night of Sharad Purnima, Lord Shri Krishna created Maharas with the Gopis, hence it is called Raas Purnima. At the same time, on the night of Sharad Purnima, Goddess Lakshmi roams the earth, which is known as Kojagar Purnima. Kheer is kept under the open sky on the night of Sharad Purnima.
Method of worship:
On this auspicious day, wake up early in the morning and take bath. Taking bath in holy rivers on this day has great importance. You can also take bath by adding Ganga water to the bath water. While bathing, meditate on all the holy rivers.
After taking bath, light the lamp in the temple of the house.
If possible, keep a fast on this day.
Anoint all the Gods and Goddesses with Ganga water.
Worship of Lord Vishnu on the holy day of full moon has special significance.
On this day, worship Goddess Lakshmi along with Lord Vishnu.
Offer food to Lord Vishnu. Include Tulsi also in the offering to Lord Vishnu. According to religious beliefs, Lord Vishnu does not accept offerings without Tulsi. Keep in mind that only virtuous things are offered to God.
Perform Aarti of Lord Vishnu and Mother Lakshmi.
On this auspicious day, meditate as much as possible on Lord Vishnu and Mother Lakshmi.
Worship of Moon on Purnima also has special significance.
Make sure to worship the moon after moonrise.
Offering Arghya to the Moon provides relief from defects.
