Sharadiya Navratri is starting from 3rd October. Sharadiya Navratri starts only after the end of Pitru Paksha. Sharadiya Navratri starts with Kalash Sthapana from the next day of Sarva Pitru Amavasya i.e. Ashwin Amavasya. The first day of Sharadiya Navratri is on Ashwin Shukla Pratipada Tithi. On that day, after taking bath in the morning, Kalash Sthapana is done. Maa Durga is invoked. Then fasting and worship etc. are done. According to religious beliefs, all wishes are fulfilled by worshipping Maa Durga with rituals during Navratri.
Confusion about Ashtami and Navami
Quoting various almanacs, astrologer Pt. Mohan Kumar Dutt Mishra and priest of Sohsarai Shri Durga Temple Pt. Surendra Kumar Dutt Mishra say that this time, despite the increase in Chaturthi Tithi and decrease in Navami Tithi, the entire Paksha will be of 15 days and Navratri will be of nine days. Devotees will recite the scriptures for nine days. But, there is a difference on 10th October. Maha Ashtami and Navami will be worshipped on 11th October. According to the scriptures, if Saptami and Ashtami coincide, the fast of Maha Ashtami is considered prohibited. On the 10th, there are both Saptami and Ashtami. Therefore, devotees will not worship Ashtami, but will only worship Maha Gauri.
