Every wish of the devotees is fulfilled by worshiping at Maa Chamunda temple in Rupau village situated on Roh-Kauakol road, about 23 kilometers from Nawada. A large number of devotees come here during Navratri to offer prayers.
By worshiping in the court of Mother Chamunda Devi during Navratri, devotees attain beauty, victory and fame. By seeing and worshiping Goddess Chamunda Devi, devotees get freedom from all the obstacles and troubles of life. Special worship is done on Saptami in Maa Chamunda Shaktipeeth. Devotees reach here right from the morning and start worshiping the Mother Goddess. Those whose wishes are fulfilled, worship here with their families for ten days. Inside the temple premises, makeup and aarti of Maa Chamunda is done every morning and evening.
There are also idols of many other gods and goddesses in the temple premises. The bravery story of Mother Chamunda Devi is described in Markandeya Purana. According to Markandeya Purana, the demon brothers Shumbha-Nishumbha, who were spreading terror in the world, had sent their demon disciples Chand-Munda to fight with Mother Durga. Mother fought and killed Chand-Mund. After this, Mother Amba started being called Chamunda Devi. After killing Chand-Munda, wearing the garland of his glans, Mother Chamunda Devi also killed the Shumbha-Nishubh demons. After this the gods and goddesses heaved a sigh of relief.
The name of the place where the goddess changes is Roopau. The priests argue that the place where Mother Amba changed her form to kill Shumbha-Nishumbha is currently known as Roopau. Every Tuesday, there is a rush of devotees to see and worship the Mother Goddess. Shiva-Parvati, Ganesh ji, Bajrangbali, Durga Devi, Mahakal, Shanidev, Lord Vishwakarma and Radha-Krishna are also present in the temple. There is a tradition of offering milk, coconut, batasha, peda, chunri, vermillion, red and white uradhul flowers, incense sticks and camphor as offerings in the temple.
