Pateshwari Devi Temple is an ancient and sacred power bench, which is the center of ultimate faith and devotion for the devotees. The temple is located in Bahraich district of Uttar Pradesh, India and is dedicated to Maa Pateshwari, one form of Goddess Durga. This temple is also considered a symbol of the love of Shiva and Sati.
The belief associated with this Shakti Peeth is that this temple is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas where the body parts of Mother Sati fell. Here the left shoulder of Mata Sati, ie left shoulder, fell. This place is a Siddha Shaktipeeth as well as Yogpeeth. This temple is also famous for Tantra Sadhana and seekers perform special rituals here. According to folk tales, Mata Pateshwari killed the demons here and protected religion. It is also said that Lord Rama worshiped the mother here during his exile. The idol of the mother located in the sanctum sanctorum of the temple is considered to be self -proclaimed, that is, this idol itself appeared.
The second name of the goddess of Patan is also Pataleshwari Devi as it is said that after returning from Lanka, Mata Sita got angry with the criticism in the society about her character and went to the Hades and went to the Hades in the mother’s lap. The temple of Patan Pataleshwari Devi is built on the same Hades tunnel where she merged into the earth. According to public beliefs, due to the burial of Sita in the earth here, a very ancient tunnel remains from the sanctum sanctorum of this temple to Hades.
If history is to be believed, there was no idol in the sanctum sanctorum of the temple earlier. There was a round silver platform in the middle, it is still under which the tunnel is covered. There are many gemstones on top of it and Durga Saptashati is engraved on a copper plate. There is a sun pond to the north of the temple. Maharathi Suryaputra Karna learned archery from Parashurama here. According to folklore, bathing in this water pool during the Mahabharata period used to cure leprosy and skin diseases.
