It is believed that with the blessings of ancestors, happiness and prosperity always remains in the family. Light a lamp under the Peepal tree on Somvati Amavasya. According to religious beliefs, gods and ancestors reside in the Peepal tree, hence if a lamp is lit near the Peepal tree, then one gets the blessings of the ancestors and gods.
Lighting a lamp in the north-east corner of the house on Amavasya Tithi is also considered auspicious. North-east corner is called the north-east direction of the house and the gods reside in this direction. It is believed that lighting a lamp at this place on Amavasya brings positivity and removes negativity.
