It is considered auspicious to perform rituals of Shradh, Tarpan and Pinddaan in these 15 days. According to religious beliefs, ancestors come to earth during Pitru Paksha and are happy to receive Shradh and Pinddaan from their descendants and bless their descendants with happiness, prosperity and progress, but there are some works which are not considered good to do during Pitru Paksha. It is believed that if these works are done during Shradh days, then a person may have to repent for the rest of his life and also have to face problems like financial crisis and troubles. Do not do these things during Pitru Paksha-
According to astrology, no auspicious work like marriage, engagement, tonsure, housewarming, starting a new business etc. should be done during the days of Pitru Paksha or Shradh. It is believed that if any auspicious work is done during these 15 days, it leads to inauspicious results. Apart from this, neither organize any auspicious event during the days of Pitru Paksha nor buy new clothes, jewellery and other items. You can buy things to donate during these 15 days, it is considered auspicious.
One should avoid consuming non-vegetarian things during Pitru Paksha. During this period, one should not consume meat, alcohol, garlic, onion and other things as this can anger the ancestors. Also, avoid consuming white sesame seeds, gourd, radish, black salt, cumin, lentils, gram, mustard greens during the days of Shradh. Also, one should not get hair and beard trimmed during the 15 days of Pitru Paksha.
