Lucknow, Amrit Vichar: Mata Sandohan Devi Temple is located in Chowpatty area. Maa Sandohan Devi gives grand darshan of her feet in complete adornment to the devotees on the day of Ekadashi which falls after both the Navratri of the year. On other days the mother’s feet remain covered. The priest of the temple says that the wish of a devotee who visits the Mother Goddess in different forms for nine days is fulfilled by having darshan of her feet.
The history is years old
Anoop Verma, the chief servant of Maa Sandohan Devi temple, said that when carbon testing of the Pindi form of Maa was done, it was found to be of the sixth century. In the 1300th century, the Mother Goddess appeared to a saint in his dreams for nine days during Navratri and ordered him to remove the Pindi idol from the pond. Mother’s Pindi was established on the day of Ekadashi. But the next morning when everyone came for darshan, Pindi was found lying at the same place. After this, as per the wish of the mother, Pindi was placed in a lying position.
Mother’s makeup is done in different ways
On the first day of Navratri, Mother Goddess rides on a lion. On the second day the mother sits on a lotus seat. Mother appears in the form of Vaishnavi on the third day on Mayur and on the fourth day on Garun. On the fifth day she rides Airavata in the form of Indrani, on the sixth day she rides a bull in the form of Ardhanarishwar and on the seventh day she rides a lion while killing Mahishasura. On the days of Ashtami and Navami, the mother sits on the throne. On the tenth day the mother remains riding on the crocodile.
