According to the Ramayana, Bajrangbali Hanuman ji is considered a very favorite devotee of Mother Janaki. He is known as Brahmachari, a boon of immortality, one of the seven mystics of the universe. But in some parts of India, Hanuman ji is also considered married, and reinforces this belief, a special temple where Hanuman ji sits with his wife.
Married Hanuman Ji Temple – Telangana’s Khammam
There is an ancient temple located in Khammam district of Telangana, which is about 220 km from Hyderabad. This temple has idols of his wife Suvarchala along with Bajrangbali Hanuman ji. It is believed here that whoever sees Hanuman ji and his wife Suvarchala, his married life is happy and love remains between husband and wife. Because of this temple, this area has become an important religious place for people who follow the marriage of Hanuman ji.
Who is Hanuman’s wife?
According to traditional beliefs, Hanuman ji’s wife’s name is Suvarchala, who is considered the daughter of Surya Dev. In many mythological texts including Parashar Samhita, the story of the marriage of Hanuman ji and Suvarchala is found.
How did Hanuman ji get married?
According to the legend, Hanuman ji tried to learn nine disciplines from the Sun God. Surya Dev taught him five of the nine disciplines, but it was necessary to be married to learn the remaining disciplines. Because Hanuman ji was Bal Brahmachari, he was unable to accept marriage. The Sun God himself presented the solution to this problem.
The Sun God gave birth to a girl with his power, named Suvarchala. He asked Hanuman ji to marry Suvarchala. Even after marriage, Hanuman ji continued to follow his celibacy because Suvarchala became absorbed in penance, which did not obstruct Hanuman ji’s life. Thus Hanuman ji maintained both his penance and celibacy along with marriage.
Hanuman Jayanti and the importance of this story
On the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti, special worship is done in this temple, where devotees worship the combined form of Hanuman ji and Suvarchala. This story not only reflects the power and devotion of Hanuman ji, but also reveals the unique tradition of their divine marriage.
