Every year, usually on September 17, the birth anniversary of Lord Vishwakarma, the seventh son of Brahmaji and the god of creation, is celebrated and special worship is offered to him.
This time Vishwakarma Puja will be held today. Employees of many government and non-government institutions and temples including the Electricity Department will perform Puja-Archana. It is believed that all construction related works in the world are completed only with the blessings of Lord Vishwakarma. Every year on September 17, special worship of Lord Vishwakarma, the god of creation, is performed.
Especially people associated with factories and handlooms worship him on Vishwakarma Jayanti. According to mythology, Lord Vishwakarma appeared on this day during the churning of the ocean. Pandit Akhilesh Chandra Shastri said that Vishwakarma Puja is performed on the same date when the Sun God transits from Leo to Virgo.
He told that Lord Shri Hari Vishnu first created Brahmaji and then Vishwakarmaji. On the instructions of Brahmaji, Lord Vishwakarma built Pushpak Viman, Lanka in Treta, Dwarka and Hastinapur in Dwapar, Jagannath Puri in Kalyug. Lord Vishwakarma also gave the knowledge of Vastu Shastra, Yantra manufacturing technology. On the occasion of Jayanti, people bought worship material etc. along with the photo of Lord Vishwakarma in the market.
