Ranakpur Jain Temple, also known as Chaturmukh Dharna Vihar, is situated on the banks of the Maghi River near Sadri town in Pali district amidst the valleys of the Aravalli mountain range in Rajasthan. This temple is famous all over the world for its huge shape, architecture and beauty. It is one of the five major temples of Jainism, dedicated to Jain Tirthankara Adinath Ji. Surrounded by forests on all sides, this temple is also known for its natural beauty. You will be surprised to see the beautiful carvings and design of this temple, you will not feel that you are standing in a temple, you will feel as if you are standing inside a palace.
Ranakpur Jain Temple has a very ancient history which takes us to the time of Mewar Dynasty. Ranakpur Jain temple was built by four devotees named Acharya Shyamsundar Ji, Dharanshah, Rana Kumbha and Depa. It is said that Dharanshah had a vision of Nalinigulma Vimana in his dream one night and inspired by this dream, he decided to build this temple. When Dharanshah asked for land from Rana Kumbha for the construction of the temple, he happily agreed to give the land. Many big and experienced architects were called for the construction of the temple but Dharanshah did not like anyone’s plan, and finally he was satisfied with the plan of Deepak, a simple architect from Mundara. After which architect Deepak prepared the architecture of Ranakpur Jain temple. It took about 60 years to build the Ranakpur Jain temple. The construction of this wonderful temple continued till 1458 AD. At that time, about Rs 99 lakh was spent in the construction of this temple.
Ranakpur temple is spread over a very large area which mainly includes Chaumukha temple, Amba Mata temple, Parshvanath temple and Surya temple etc. The Chaumukha temple dedicated to Adinath Tirthakar is the largest and important temple here. There are 29 halls, 1444 pillars and 80 domes in this temple. Apart from this, there are 76 small dome-shaped holy places, four big prayer rooms and four big worship places in the temple, which inspire humans to attain salvation by getting freedom from the 84 stages of life and death. The carvings of dancing Apsaras inside the temple are worth seeing. Apart from this, the striking temple will have four separate entrances which allow access to the temple from all directions, where devotees can take advantage of the attractive four-faced marble idol of Lord Adinath in the sanctum sanctorum. A closer look at the structure of the temple reveals that its architecture and stone carvings match that of another ancient Mirpur Jain temple in Rajasthan.
The huge Ranakpur temple complex of 48,000 square feet comprises a total of four imposing temples and basements with pillars and domes. The carvings on the pillars in the temple are uniform, apart from this, intricate scrollwork and geometric patterns can be seen on the ceiling. Apart from this, the structure of Ranakpur temple includes several pavilions, beautiful turrets, prayer rooms built into the temple, two huge bells and attractive windows etc. The most unique feature of this temple is its color changing pillars, which change color from golden to light blue after every hour of the day.

There is an influx of tourists here throughout the year, who along with visiting the temple enjoy the natural beauty of this place.
