Importance and story of Hartalika Teej
The word “hartalika” means – Harat means kidnapping and Alika i.e. Saheli. According to the legend, Mata Parvati’s marriage was decided by her father to Lord Vishnu. But Parvati ji’s mind was to get Lord Shiva in the form of husband. When his friends came to know about this, he kidnapped Parvati ji and took him to a dense forest and hid him. There Parvati ji pleased Lord Shiva by doing harsh penance and eventually he was married to Shiva. In the memory of this incident, this fast was named Hartalika Teej.
