Dussehra is also called Vijayadashami. According to the Hindu calendar, Dussehra is celebrated every year on the Dashami date of Shukla Paksha of Ashwin month. Dussehra has great significance in Hinduism. This festival is celebrated as the victory of truth over untruth. On this day Lord Shri Ram killed Lankapati Ravana and Mother Durga killed Mahishasura. On the day of Dussehra, Lord Shri Ram is worshiped with rituals. This year Dussehra will be celebrated on 12 October 2024.
Dussehra Puja Vidhi-
1. Dussehra puja is always performed in Abhijit, Vijayi and afternoon time.
2. Perform Dussehra puja in the north-east corner of your house.
3. Purify the place of worship with Ganga water.
3. Make an ashtadal (8 petals) with lotus petals and then pray to Goddess Aparajita for happiness and prosperity.
4. Now worship Lord Ram and Hanuman ji.
5. Finally, perform the Aarti of the Goddess and distribute the Prasad.
Importance of Dussehra
Weapons are also worshipped on Dussehra. Sundarkand should be read on Dussehra. Books, vehicles etc. are also worshipped on this day. Worshipping Hanuman Ji on Dussehra is considered most beneficial. Recite Hanuman Chalisa on this day. Bringing the wood of Ravana Dahan home is considered auspicious. Worshipping Shami tree has special significance on this day. Make Rangoli at home on Dussehra.
