Jitiya Vrat Niyam 2024: This year Jitiya Vrat will be observed on 25th September 2025. Jitiya Vrat has special significance in Hinduism. In this fast, Lord Jimutvahana is worshipped ritually. This fast is mainly observed by mothers in Bihar, Jharkhand and some areas of Uttar Pradesh for the long life and safety of their children. This fast is also known as Jiutiya and Jivitputrika Vrat. Although every fast is observed with full rituals and rules, but it is necessary to follow some rules in Jitiya Vrat. This fast is considered to be one of the difficult fasts. If you are also going to observe Jitiya Vrat this year, then know some important rules-
1. It is believed that the mother-in-law first keeps the Jitiya fast, then the daughter-in-law carries forward this tradition with full rituals and rules. It is said that if Jitiya is kept once, it should not be abandoned midway.
2. Jitiya fast lasts for three days. This festival begins with Nahai-Khai. According to the rules of the fast, on the day of Nahai-Khai, fasting women take a bath and eat satvik food only once a day.
3. On the next day of Nahai-Khaai, on the day of Jitiya Vrat, mothers remain without water for the whole day and night for the well-being of their children. In this fast, women fast without eating or drinking anything for 36 hours. Therefore, it is considered one of the toughest fasts.
3. One should stay away from debates and arguments on the day of Jitiya Vrat. One should not use foul language against anyone. It is believed that celibacy should be observed during this Vrat.
4. Jitiya fast is observed on the third day in the auspicious time. After offering Arghya to the Sun God, there is a tradition of observing fast by consuming rice, Maruwa roti, Ridge gourd, Ragi and Noni greens.
5. Special attention should be paid to cleanliness during Jitiya fast.
