Let us tell you that on the day of monthly Shivratri, first of all purify the place of worship with Ganga water, after that install the Shivling at a clean place and then bathe the Shivling with Ganga water. And anoint Shivling with milk, curd, honey, Ganga water and other Panchamrit.
Now in the worship of Lord Shiva, offer Belpatra, Dhatura, hemp and flowers to the Shivling. After this, light a ghee lamp in front of the Shivling and worship the Shivling properly by lighting incense sticks and then offer food. While worshiping Shivalinga, chant the mantra “Om Namah Shivay”, “Mahamrityunjay Mantra”, finally recite Shiv Chalisa and read the Aarti.
