Up news: Under the zero tolerance policy of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the state government has intensified strict action against illegal liquor traders. Between 1 to 31 August 2025, 10,503 prosecutions were registered in the state. During this period, about 2.69 lakh liters of illicit liquor was recovered, 1,995 accused were arrested and 351 people were sent to jail. Also, 23 vehicles used in smuggling illegal liquor were seized.
Giving information about the state -wide campaign against illegal liquor, Minister of State for Excise and Provisions Nitin Aggarwal said that on the instructions of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, a 10 -day special enforcement campaign is being carried out in the state from August 28 to September 6. Under this campaign, 1,587 prosecutions were registered till 31 August, 38,099 liters of illicit liquor was seized and 340 persons were arrested, out of which 83 have been sent to jail. Three vehicles used in illegal liquor transportation were also seized.
He informed that as a result of this policy, there is a continuous increase in the income of the Excise Department. In the financial year 2025-26, the state has received an excise revenue of Rs 22,337.62 crore till the month of August, which is 15.64 percent i.e. 3021.41 crore more than the previous year. A revenue of Rs 3754.43 crore has been earned in the month of August itself.
Aggarwal said that due to strict action and surveillance of the state government, there is a continuous tightening of illegal liquor traders. The zero tolerance policy of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is the biggest reason for this success, while the enforcement operations at the departmental level have given it impetus.
