Meerut Cybercrime Police has exposed a gang who used to trap girls in their trap by becoming fake army officers on the matrimonial website. On Saturday, the police arrested Arpit Raj, partner of the main accused from Mukherjee Nagar in Delhi.
According to the information, a young woman resident of Meerut lodged a complaint at the cybercrime police station that the accused made fake profiles on a matrimonial site called Batter-Haf and befriended her. Describing himself as an army officer, he promised to marry and gradually cheated 5 lakh 33 thousand rupees from him. Not only this, the accused also took the girl to Rishikesh and misbehaved with her in hotels.
Police said that Rohit Kumar, the main accused in this case, has already been sent to jail, while his partner Arpit Raj was absconding for a long time. As part of the campaign on the instructions of SSP Meerut, the cybercrime police finally arrested Arpit by raising technical clues. The arrested accused is around 23 years old and is originally from Patna district of Bihar, but was living in Mukherjee Nagar, Delhi these days.
The police have recovered a mobile phone, laptop, fake file cover, envelopes and diaries from the Indian Navy logo from the accused. Initial investigation has revealed that the accused used these documents to take the women in confidence and prove themselves to be an army officer.
The arrest police team included Inspector Jayaprakash Yadav, Sub -Inspector Vishal Kumar, Head Constable Rajkumar, Constable Sanjay Kumar and driver Mohit Malik. Police believe that this arrest may reveal many more such cases of cyber fraud.
