Maruti Suzuki Swift CNG: Maruti Suzuki has launched the CNG variant of its popular Swift hatchback in the Indian market. With the inclusion of the CNG variant, Maruti Suzuki is set to further increase its sales. The company is targeting consumers who prioritize mileage and affordable cost.
what is speciality
– The most notable update in the new Swift CNG is its upgraded engine. The hatchback will be powered by the recently developed 1.2-litre three-cylinder Z12E naturally aspirated petrol engine, which promises better fuel efficiency than the current 1.2-litre K-Series four-cylinder engine.
– This new powertrain has been specifically modified to accommodate natural gas. This makes the Swift the first Maruti car to offer this engine and CNG combination.
– This engine is expected to be introduced in other Maruti models in the future, which is an important step in the company’s CNG strategy.
– Swift CNG will offer a detuned power output of 74 bhp and 100 Nm of torque. It will have a five-speed manual gearbox.
– The old Swift CNG had a claimed mileage of 30 kmpl, but the new car is expected to have a better mileage of over 31 kmpl.
what is the price
– Talking about the price, the Swift CNG is expected to be Rs 80,000 to Rs 90,000 more expensive than the petrol variant.
– Maruti Suzuki may launch more CNG variants to take on rivals like the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios, Hyundai Xcent and Tata Punch.
– Both Tata Motors and Hyundai have already introduced twin-cylinder CNG kits in their models. This frees up boot space. Maruti Suzuki may consider doing the same for the Swift CNG.
Market Share
Maruti Suzuki dominates the Indian CNG passenger vehicle segment. CNG models account for around 34 per cent of its total sales. With the introduction of Swift CNG, this figure is expected to increase further. This will help the company achieve its target of selling 6,00,000 CNG vehicles by FY25, much higher than the 450,000 units sold in 2024.
