Due to the rising prices of petrol, diesel and CNG, the popularity of electric vehicles is increasing among Indians. This is the reason that there has been a jump of 211 percent in the sales of electric vehicles in the financial year 2021-22.
According to the registration data of the Vehicle Portal under the Ministry of Road Transport, so far four lakh 19 thousand 812 electric vehicles have been sold in the country in 2021-22. Whereas in the financial year 2020-21, one lakh 34 thousand 853 electric vehicles were sold.
There has been a huge increase in the sales of electric two wheelers in FY 2022. According to the data, more than two lakh electric two-wheelers have been sold in 2022 with a jump of 461 percent. Whereas in 2021 only 35,626 electric two-wheelers were sold.

According to the data, till March 29, more than one lakh 52 thousand e-rickshaws have been sold. This is an increase of 98 percent as compared to the previous year. Electric car sales have reached 16 thousand units with a jump of 251 percent. In the last fiscal, only 4,593 electric cars were sold.
Hero dominates the sale of electric two wheelers
As per the data, Hero Electric Vehicles Pvt Ltd has dominated the sales of electric two-wheelers. The company has sold 63 thousand electric two-wheelers in this financial year till March 29, 2022. After this comes the numbers of Okinawa and Empre. This year Tata Motors has sold 9,794 electric cars.
