New Delhi, 21 April (IANS). So far, the Central Government has transferred an amount of Rs 43.3 lakh crore to the general public’s account through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) scheme.
This has led to improvement in transparency. At the same time, success was achieved in stopping leakage and government funds are also directly reaching the beneficiary.
According to government data, the government has directly transferred an amount of Rs 43,35,808 crore to the general public through DBT till 21 April.
In FY 25 alone, the Center has transferred a subsidy of Rs 6.60 lakh crore through DBT.
In February, Prime Minister Narendra Modi released the 19th installment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan) scheme to 9.8 crore farmers. In this, an amount of more than Rs 22,000 crore was directly transferred to the farmers through DBT without any middlemen.
According to the latest report, the arrival of DBT system has helped to prevent leakage and it has saved Rs 3.48 lakh crore.
Since the launch of this system launched by PM Modi -led government, the beneficiary coverage has registered a increase of 16 times from 11 crore to 176 crore.
Through the DBT system, the money goes directly to the bank accounts of the beneficiaries. Due to this, the theft of funds has been banned, resulting in subsidy allocation in total expenditure declined from 16 percent to 9 percent.
The study stated, “DBT has ensured accuracy for funding the leakage and promoting transparency. Along with this, welfare distribution with DBT has been defined again.”
In 2009-10, the welfare budget has recorded a decline in subsidy allocation despite an increase of Rs 8.5 lakh crore from Rs 2.1 lakh crore to Rs 2023-24, which reflects the success of DBT.
The base-linked authentication helped reduce fake beneficiaries, which led to the expansion of coverage without fiscal expenditure.
