Burhanpur, 17 March (IANS). A record is made in a liquor shop auction in Burhanpur district of Madhya Pradesh. 44 shops here have been auctioned for Rs 155 crore. This time the auction is about 40 crores more than the previous year.
It has been reported that Burhanpur has sold 44 liquor shops for Rs 155 crore this year as compared to the auction made in 115 crores last year. The auction has become the highest revenue increase in the state with a record increase of 34.5 percent.
The Excise Department had set a target of 20 percent revenue growth this year, but the figure reached 34.5 percent due to strict competition among liquor contractors. Burhanpur became the highest percentage increase in the state, while Bhopal finished second.
He further informed that last year, shops were allotted in 14 groups by forming small groups of liquor shops. Those shops were allotted. This time too, these licenses were encouraged to take part in the auction again, but these licensees did not show interest. Not only this, 80 percent revenue was not received. This figure reached only about 64 percent. As a result, shops were allotted from the lottery system. In this way, a record has been made in the shop auction in the district.
Social worker Rupendra Kir expressed happiness over this increase in the auction of liquor shops in Burhanpur. He said that the government will get a big revenue benefit from this, which will give impetus to the development works of the district. This auction of liquor contracts will not only benefit the government, but will also see its effect in infrastructure and various schemes of the district.
