60 additional flights are added to India every hour and a new airport was built every 40 days: Minister of Civil Aviation

New Delhi, 5 July (IANS). Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu said that 88 new airports have been built in just 10 years in the country with a new airport every 40 days and 60 additional flights are associated with every hour.

According to the Union Minister, flying in India today has become more accessible and economical.

Union Minister Naidu said, “Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Indian sky is more connected, competitive and cooperative.”

He reiterated the ministry’s commitment to collaborative, state-specific strategies to achieve inclusive aviation development.

In the conference of North Zone Civil Aviation Ministers organized by the Ministry of Civil Aviation, the Union Minister said, “Through this strategic initiative, we aim to identify regional opportunities and to realize the immense potential of Tier 2 and 3 category cities.”

Addressing the inauguration ceremony, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that the civil aviation sector plays an important role in promoting regional connectivity, tourism and socio-economic development in the state.

He appreciated the progress in the civil aviation sector and underlined the importance of ensuring safety of helicopter operations in the state hill lands, for which both the state government and the ministry are committed.

The ministry gave several presentations on opportunities for the states in the aviation sector.

Following presentations on the opportunities available to the states by the Ministry, meetings were held between delegations and ministry officials under the leadership of Union Civil Aviation Minister Naidu.

With these meetings, the states got an opportunity to put their needs and suggestions directly before the Ministry.

Also, the state governments also discussed directly with the major stakeholders of the aviation industry (Airlines, OEMS, FTOS, MROS, AAI, PHL) directly.

The Planery Session held at the end of the conference presented a holistic view, incorporating the discussions and conclusions that took place throughout the day.

Union Minister Naidu highlighted the strategic priorities of the ministry for the north region, including development of heliport infrastructure, expansion of flight routes, strengthening flying training institutes and MRO hubs and increasing coordination between center-state-industry.
