New Delhi, 18 May (IANS). On the occasion of the completion of eight years of GST, the Central Board of Customs (CBIC) on Sunday organized a nationwide cycle called ‘Sunday on Cycle’ with the ‘Fit India Movement’.
CBIC member (GST) Shashank Priya highlighted the transforming effect of GST on the Indian taxation system.
He emphasized how GST has integrated about 30 different indirect taxes into a single transparent tax structural, making tax administration and compliance for both businesses and citizens.
Priya also informed the participants about the important benefits given to small taxpayers through initiatives like GST Composition Scheme and Quartely Return Monthly Payment (QRMP) scheme, which reduce compliance burden and promote ease of doing business.
According to the Finance Ministry, this major event was organized at Major Dhyanchand National Stadium in New Delhi, in which more than 100 CGST commissioners across the country are also participating.
CGST’s Mumbai and Pune Zone also included Bollywood celebrities like Sunil Shetty, Milind Soman and John Abraham.
At the venue in New Delhi, a dedicated help desk was made ‘No About GST’ i.e. ‘Learn about GST’ to join the participants and answer questions about GST.
To make and enhance access to access, informative brochures were distributed on the major topics of GST. In addition, a digital kiosk equipped with QR code was placed at the venue, so that the participants could directly scan and download the GST Resource Material on their mobiles.
Hoardings and banners highlighting support for GST reforms and taxpayer-centered initiatives, especially MSMEs, GST registration process, etc. were installed.
These efforts created a large and attractive atmosphere, in line with the CBIC’s perspective of bringing GST closer to people through public engagement and education.
The initiative is another example of CBI’s commitment to join taxpayers and general public through innovative and inclusive outreach programs, which celebrates both national health goals and visit to GST improvement, as India is celebrating eight successful years under this historic tax system.
