New Delhi, 17 April (IANS). According to the Confederation of Indian Textile Industry (CITI), India’s textiles and apparel exports have recorded an increase of 6.32 percent compared to the previous year during the current financial year ended March 31, 2025. The apparel area was important for this growth.
An analysis suggests that this increase in the export of textiles and costumes is mainly due to the export exports, with an increase of 10.03 percent during the current financial year.
CITI president Rakesh Mehra said, “Strong performance in apparel exports between global challenges and steady increase in textiles highlight the strength, adaptability and global competition ability of the Indian textile and apparel industry.”
He credited this to the rising pace of ‘new trade alliances’ and assistant policy decisions by the government, which helped to create confidence among exporters.
Mehra also emphasized that the industry remains optimistic in view of the developing global trade dynamics to maintain this growth.
He said, “The ongoing trade tension between the US and China offers a strategic opportunity for India, especially in textile and apparel trade. Beyond the US, India is in a good position of emerging as a reliable and favorite partner from China. However, this will require a concrete effort to secure active diplomacy and more favorable and stable tariff system.”
During March this year, Indian textile exports were about 5.81 percent less than in March 2024, while the apparel exports recorded 3.97 percent during the same period.
Cumulative exports of textiles and apparel during March 2025 have fallen by 1.63 percent compared to March 2024.
During April 2024 to March 2025, Indian textiles recorded an increase of 3.61 percent as compared to the previous year, while the apparel exports recorded a 10.03 percent increase during the same period.
According to the analysis of CITI, this growth overtook the performance of entire trade exports, which remained largely stable during the same period.
