Aadhaar certification transaction exceeded 211 crores in May: Officers

New Delhi, 5 June (IANS). According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology on Thursday, in May this year, Aadhaar number holders conducted more than 211 crore Aadhaar authentication transactions. The cumulative number of such transactions has exceeded 15,223 crore.

The authentication transactions in May are higher than the previous month. Also, 201.76 crore such transactions were done in May 2024.

The increasing number shows how the base-based certification is playing a convenient role in effective welfare distribution and voluntarily benefiting various services offered by service providers.

The statement said that it is a catalyst for millions of people to make life easier.

The increasing number of certification highlights the widespread use and utility of the Aadhaar and the development of the digital economy in the country.

AI/mL based Aadhaar face authentication solutions of UIDAI also saw a steady increase. In May, 15.49 crore face authentication transactions were recorded, which outlines this certification method and underlines the benefits of the Aadhaar number holders.

According to the statement, more than 100 institutions, including government ministries and departments, financial institutions, oil marketing companies, telecom service providers, are using facial certification for profit and smooth distribution of services.

Similarly, more than 37 crore e-KYC transactions were done in May. The statement said that Aadhaar e-KYC service is playing an important role in improving customer experience and making business easier in areas including banking and non-banking financial services.

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is a government agency responsible for the management of the Aadhaar program.

Its primary role is to release a unique 12-conductive identity number (Aadhaar) to all the residents of India.

This number is associated with the residential and biometric information of the resident, which is stored in a central database.

UIDAI manages the entire base life cycle including enrollment, authentication and update. Also, defines policies and processes for these processes.
