New Delhi. Adani Group-owned Adani Media Networks Limited (AMNL) has acquired a majority stake of over 50% in Indo-Asian News Service (IANS), a leading news agency based in Delhi, India. This strategic move marks the second major acquisition for Adani Group in the media industry after the earlier acquisition of NDTV. IANS, headquartered in Delhi, is famous for its Hindi and English news services. With this acquisition, AMNL is set to operate as a subsidiary of the Adani Group, similar to its role after the acquisition of NDTV. The deal includes a significant shareholding agreement between AMNL and IANS, giving AMNL both ownership and voting rights in the news agency.
According to reports, Adani Enterprises informed the regulators that AMNL has signed a shareholding agreement with IANS and its shareholder Sandeep Bamzai. The agreement allows AMNL to retain control over the management and operations of IANS, including the right to appoint directors. AMNL stressed that the acquisition is in line with its strategic goals, positioning IANS as its subsidiary. The statement highlighted that all operation and management control of IANS will now rest with AMNL. Additionally, AMNL will have the right to appoint directors on the Board of IANS.
The move reflects Adani Group’s continued expansion in the media sector, reflecting its interest and investment in shaping the narrative across various media platforms. The acquisition of IANS underlines Adani Group’s commitment to strengthen its presence in the media landscape and increase influence in both Hindi and English news services.
