Ahmedabad, Sep 11 (IANS) Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) on Wednesday announced that it will develop a multipurpose berth at Kandla Port in Gujarat.
The company said in its statement that berth number 13 of Kandla’s Deendayal Port will be enabled to handle multipurpose cargo. It is expected to start by FY 2026-27.
APSEZ Whole Time Director and CEO Ashwani Gupta said that the development of Berth No. 13 will diversify our presence at Deendayal Port. Through this, we will be able to handle multipurpose clean cargo at the port.
Berth No. 13 of Deendayal Port is 300 metres in length and has the capacity to handle 5.7 million tonnes (MMT) of cargo annually.
Gupta said that after this berth becomes operational, the company’s position on the west coast will be strengthened and we will be able to provide more services to the customers of Gujarat and North India.
Adani Port has formed a wholly owned subsidiary company, DPA Container & Clean Cargo Terminal Limited (DPACCCTL), for operating this berth.
Adani Port received a letter of intent (LOI) in July for the development of the berth and operation and maintenance for 30 years. The company said it will develop the berth on a DBFOT (design, build, finance, operate and transfer) model.
Adani Ports is the country’s largest private port developer and operator company. The company has a total of 15 ports and terminals on the western and eastern coast of the country.
In the first quarter of the financial year 2024-25, the company’s profit increased by 47 percent year-on-year to Rs 3,107 crore. During this period, the company’s income was Rs 7,560 crore.
