The total number of claims received till 20 October 2024 was 860,575 and its value was Rs 17,211.50 crore.

Nowadays, if you drink a cup of tea outside, you have to spend at least Rs 10 for that too. One cup of tea every day amounts to Rs 3650 per year. That means the government is providing you an insurance cover of Rs 2 lakh for less than the price of one tea.

Let us now also know who can take advantage of this. People between 18 to 50 years of age having an account in bank or post office can apply for this scheme. People who enroll under this plan before completing 50 years of age can get coverage till the age of 55 years by paying regular premium.

You can apply for Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana by visiting your bank’s branch or website. If you have an account in the post office, you will have to go to the nearest post office. Under PMJJBY, the premium is automatically deducted from the account holder’s bank account every year.
