New Delhi, 14 June (IANS). The Indian Medical Association, Gujarat State Branch on Saturday requested Tata Sons to provide financial assistance to the students of the Air India flight AI-171 near Ahmedabad Airport near Ahmedabad Airport.
The accident confirmed the death of about 275 people on the plane and about 275 people on the ground. Air India -owned Tata Group announced a compensation of Rs 1 crore for the families of every person who lost his life in this tragic incident.
In a letter addressed to Tata Sons chairman N Chandrasekaran, the IMA appreciated the compensation by Air India and requested immediate assistance to the affected medical students and doctors.
The letter states, “We politely request you to consider providing financial and necessary assistance to the medical students present at the accident site, who were injured in this unfortunate incident or lost their lives.”
The letter further stated, “These individuals were not only suffering, but also the future columns of our healthcare system. Their families are entitled to equal care and assistance. Accordingly, we politely request you to announce immediate support to medical students who were injured or lost their lives.”
Earlier, two doctors had filed a petition in the Supreme Court, demanding the central government to provide adequate compensation to the affected medical students.
In the petition filed on Friday by Dr. Sourav Kumar and Dr. Dhruv Chauhan, the Supreme Court has requested that the Central Government should be directed to immediately announce an interim compensation of Rs 50 lakh for the families of all the deceased victims, including the resident doctors of the BJ Medical College, who were among the killed people.
The petition has also demanded instructions to provide rehabilitation assistance to the central government with employment opportunities for eligible family members of the deceased.
