New Delhi, 16 April (IANS). The India-Mide East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) is such an initiative, which will benefit all the countries associated with it. There is no leader in this project, but things will be carried forward with mutual support in it. This statement was made by CIEU board member and Professor Ashwani Mahajan, co-convenor of Swadeshi Jagran Manch, on Wednesday.
Speaking to IANS on the Sideline of IMEC Conclave 2025 in the national capital, Mahajan said that this is a project that is designed for cooperation, not for dominance. For this reason, a large number of countries want to connect with IMEC. Its purpose is not only business, but also to welfare people with infrastructure development.
The IMEC projects launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during India’s G20 chairmanship in 2023 are being seen as a strategic move in response to the growing global disruption.
Former Minister of State for External Affairs, CIEU’s Board Member, Meenakshi Lekhi said that in today’s time the whole world needs alternative routes, so that goods can be transported cheaply from one corner of the world to another.
Lekhi further said that during India’s G20 chairmanship in 2023, Prime Minister Modi started IMEC Initiative. Its purpose is to create an alternative trading route with all participation, which has all the parties associated with it.
Talking to IANS, former Foreign Secretary of India, Shyam Saran, said that it should be seen from a historical point of view. India has been the center of sea routes for centuries, connecting East and West. Similarly, the ancient caravan route which connected us to Central Asia and China. In today’s time, we are re -connecting these ancient routes through IMEC. You can understand its importance from this that it connects us a highly dynamic field of global economy to West Asia.
Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs (Economic Affair), Dmmu Ravi said that we should look at the IMEC from a long -term perspective. This will benefit all partner countries and create jobs, which will reduce stress in the area.
He further said that from the point of view of India, the country will play an important role in IMEC. This will also benefit Indian business.
