Union Minister Prahlad Joshi had asked the Central Consumer Protection Authority to investigate the matter.
App based taxi service companies- Ola and Uber have been sent a notice to the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) separately for Apple users and a separate fare for Android users. According to the news of the Times of India, the authority has issued a notice seeking answers from the two companies on charges of collecting different rates on the basis of operating system of their mobile phones in India.
Union Minister had ordered an inquiry
According to the news, about a month ago, Consumer Affairs Minister Prahlad Joshi said that inequality appears to be a prima facie improper trade behavior for the Android device and the fare displayed simultaneously on the iPhone for the same ride. The Union Minister had asked the Central Consumer Protection Authority to investigate it. It was also asked to find out whether food distribution and online ticket booking apps are practicing different pricing.
Uber said-we don’t do this
In this case, Uber has said that we do not determine prices based on the rider’s phone manufacturer. We are ready to work with CCPA to overcome any misunderstanding. The Union Minister had a meeting with the officials of the Department of Consumer Affairs on Wednesday. In this, he was informed about the recently taken steps to protect consumer interests including this case.
Users accused on social media
According to the news, earlier, it was reported that a social media user had alleged that Uber charges more than Apple iPhone users than Android users. This claim received a lot of support from a picture shared online. It showed two different mobile phones with different rates for the same passengers of Uber auto. The photo featured the fare ₹ 290.79 on the Android device, while the Apple iPhone has shown a higher fee of ₹ 342.47 for the same journey.
