New Delhi, 15 May (IANS). Budget airline IndiGo on Thursday defended its code sharing partnership with Turkish Airlines. In addition, it is also said to be beneficial for Indian travelers and economy.
Turkey openly supported the neighboring country during the India-Pakistan struggle in ‘Operation Sindoor’. After this, IndiGo is being appealed to cancel their agreement with Turkish Airlines on social media across the country.
In a statement to IANS, IndiGo said that the current system allows Indian and Turkish airlines to operate 56 weekly flights under the bilateral Air Service Agreement (ASA).
The airline said, “This system provides many types of benefits to Indian travelers and the country’s economy.”
IndiGo said that this has expanded long distance connectivity at a time when global air fair prices are rising after the Covid-19 epidemic.
The budget airline said, “Increased capacity has especially allowed more affordable international travel to Indian travelers flying from small cities through two-stop connections.”
IndiGo reported that this partnership has massive economic impacts. This has increased trade and along with the creation of jobs, the country’s tax income has also been contributed.
Indigo’s Turkish Airlines is being severely criticized on social media. Also, users are pleading with IndiGo to end the airline.
On the social media platform X, a user wrote when IndiGo will end your partnership with Turkish Airlines. They are earning profits from our citizens and are using against our country.
Senior advocate Sanjay Hegde also suggested that the boycott could begin with Indigo ending the agreement and flying directly to alternative routes such as athens.
