New Delhi, 18 June (IANS). Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari said on Wednesday that annual toll pass will help the common man to save up to Rs 7,000.
Explaining in detail the Union Minister said, “You are allowed to do 200 trips under the annual toll pass. A trip means crossing a toll. For example, if you spend 50 rupees on a toll, you will have to spend 10,000 rupees for 200 trips. At the same time, Annual pass is being given for only Rs 3,000. One such common man will be able to save up to Rs 7,000.”
Gadkari said, “Annual toll pass is only for national highways. It will not apply to roads with jurisdiction of the states.”
On behalf of the Union Minister, on the social media platform ‘X’ said, “Under a historical initiative, a fastag -based annual pass is being started from 15 August 2025 to Rs 3,000. This pass will be valid for one year or up to 200 visits, which will be valid.”
The Union Minister further wrote in the post, “This pass has been specially prepared for non-commercial private vehicles (cars, jeeps, vans etc.) and it will make it possible on the national highways across the country. To renew the annual pass, soon the highway travel app and the websites of NHAI / MORTH will be provided a separate link, which will provide a different link, which will be simple and easy.”
Additionally, the Union Minister said that we are going to bring a new system, after which there will be no need to stop trains at the toll plaza.
Earlier in April, the government had said that ‘ANPR-Fastag Best Barrier-equipped tolling system’ would be implemented at select toll plazas to enable the uninterrupted, movement of vehicles on the toll plaza and reduce travel time.
The ministry had said that this advance tolling system ‘Automatic Number Plate Recognition’ (ANPR) technology, in which vehicles are identified with number plates and ‘fastag systems’, which works on the radio-frequency identification (RFID), will be a mixture of both.
Under this system, vehicles will be taken through toll high performance ANPR cameras and fastag readers, in which vehicles will not need to stop at the toll plaza.
