Bank Holiday October: According to the bank holiday list of RBI, there are a total of 15 days of bank holidays this month. However, there will be additional holidays in banks this festival season due to Navratri, Durga Puja and state-specific festivals. If we talk about this week, today i.e. Friday is Dussehra (Mahashtami/Mahanavami)/Ayudha Puja/Durga Puja (Dasain)/Durga Ashtami (Agartala, Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Gangtok, Guwahati, Imphal, Itanagar, Kohima, Kolkata, Banks are closed in Patna, Shillong, Uttar Pradesh government has declared a public holiday today.

Whereas, on October 12, Second Saturday/Dussehra/Dussehra (Mahanavami/Vijayadashami)/Durga Puja (Dasain) (Agartala, Belapur, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Dehradun, Gangtok, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Hyderabad-Andhra Pradesh, Hyderabad-Telangana Banks will remain closed in Itanagar, Jaipur, Jammu, Kanpur, Kochi, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi, Panaji, Patna, Raipur, Ranchi, Shillong, Shimla, Srinagar, Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday. On the other hand, banks will remain closed in Gangtok on October 14 on the occasion of Durga Puja (Dasain).

October 17, 2024 (Thursday): Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti/Kati Bihu – Celebrated in states like Karnataka, Assam and Himachal Pradesh.

October 26, 2024 (Saturday): Merger Day in Jammu and Kashmir.

October 31, 2024 (Thursday): Diwali (Deepawali)—a major festival celebrated across the country, especially in states like Gujarat and West Bengal, which also marks the birthday of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

Apart from these, banks are closed on the second and fourth Saturdays (12th and 26th October) as well as every Sunday during the month.

State wise bank holidays

There will be various state-specific holidays in the month of October. For example, Assam will celebrate Kati Bihu on October 17, while Jammu and Kashmir will celebrate Accession Day on October 26. Similarly, many states will celebrate Durga Puja and Dussehra on different dates in the second week of October. The complete list of state-wise holidays is given below:

11 October (Friday): Maha Ashtami/Ayudha Puja (celebrated in Karnataka, Odisha, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal).

October 12 (Saturday): Vijayadashami/Dussehra (in many states).

31 October (Thursday): Narak Chaturdashi/Kali Puja (West Bengal, Assam, Karnataka, Gujarat).

Even though bank branches will remain closed on these holidays, customers will continue to have access to digital banking services, allowing them to make transactions, make payments and use other online services throughout the month.
