Arunachal Pradesh's GST collection increased by 66 percent, the number of taxpayers crosses 20,000

New Delhi, May 20 (IANS). The GST collection of the northeastern state of Arunachal Pradesh has increased by 66 percent on an annual basis in April. This information was given by the Chief Minister of the state Pema Khandu on Tuesday.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu described this achievement on social media platform ‘X’ as historic, “Arunachal has recorded the highest monthly GST collection of Rs 332 crore ever in April 2025, which is 66 percent more than the same period of previous year.”

In the post, he further wrote, “Arunachal’s taxpayer base has increased considerably since the launch of GST in 2017 and today the state has more than 20,000 registered taxpayers.”

Along with this post, Khandu also shared a poster, which said that on an annual basis, a 66 percent increase in GST collection is an indicator of strong economic development. Also, it was further written that since the implementation of GST in July 2017, the tax base of the state has increased by several times.

India’s GST collection has increased to a record of Rs 2.37 lakh crore in April, which is 12.6 percent more than Rs 2.10 lakh crore in the same month last year.

In April this year, GST collection increased by 10.7 percent to Rs 1.9 lakh crore due to domestic transactions, while revenue from imported goods increased by 20.8 percent to Rs 46,913 crore.

During April, the amount of refund issuing increased by 48.3 percent to Rs 27,341 crore.

A senior official said that the increase in GST collection is due to high levels of economic activity and better compliance.

Praising the record GST collection, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said, “These figures reflect the strength of the Indian economy.”
