Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s life journey: freedom fighter, politician and poet
Atal Bihari Vajpayee was born on 25 December 1924 in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh. In 1942, he actively joined the Quit India Movement. He chose journalism as his career. Then later he joined the Jana Sangh and entered active politics. He became an MP from Jana Sangh for the first time. He lived in the Jana Sangh from 1957 to 1977. After this, with the establishment of the Janata Party, Morarji was the Foreign Minister in Desai’s government.
Important role in establishment of Bharatiya Janata Party
In 1980, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, dissatisfied with the Janata Party, played an important role in the establishment of the Bharatiya Janata Party and became its president. Atal Bihari Vajpayee is also known as a politician, journalist and poet. He was also awarded the Bharat Ratna in 2015. The result of his efficient leadership was that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) was formed.
Record of becoming MP 12 times
Atal Bihari Vajpayee holds a record of becoming MP 12 times. Whereas, he won the Lok Sabha elections only 10 times. At the same time, he also reached Parliament twice as a Rajya Sabha member. Because of this, Vajpayee ji was second in the list of leaders who won the most Lok Sabha elections.
Elections contested from 6 Lok Sabha seats in four states
Atal Bihari Vajpayee contested and won from six different Lok Sabha seats in his political life. These six Lok Sabha seats were from four different states. He won Lok Sabha elections from Lucknow and Balrampur in Uttar Pradesh, Gandhinagar in Gujarat, Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh and New Delhi seats in Delhi and New Delhi. He is the only person to contest and win elections from different seats in different states.
Pokhran Nuclear Tests and Kargil War
On 13 May 1998, by conducting nuclear tests in Pokhran, he shocked the whole world and presented a strong image of India. In addition, Vajpayee ji gave the message that India is not going to bow to pressure and religious leaders. During his tenure, there was a Kargil war in 1999, in which the Indian Army, showing its indomitable courage, once again told the whole world and neighboring countries that India is always ready for any adversity and can give a befitting reply to protect its sovereignty.
