ITR filling: There is big news for taxpayers who pay crores of income tax across the country. The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has announced to extend the date of filling the return. According to the information given by CBDT, now the last date for filling ITR for FY 2024-25 has been extended to 15 September on 31 July 2025. The date has been extended due to ITR form, system development needs and significant amendments in TDS Credit Reflection.
The Income Tax Department announced this through a post on X (which was previously known as Twitter). The post wrote, “Please pay attention to taxpayer! CBDT has decided to extend the last date for filing ITR. Now it has been extended to 15 September 2025 from 31 July. This expansion will provide more time due to ITR form, system development needs and significant amendments in TDS Credit Reflection. Will be given
5000 rupees is fined
The deadline of the ITR filing of 31 July, 2025 applies to most general categories. This includes most salaried employees and all taxpayers whose accounts are not required to audit. The salaried employee will get additional 46 days to file his income tax return. If the ITR is not filed by the last date, then a fine of up to Rs 5,000 may have to be paid.
