Bhubaneswar, January 8 (IANS). G20 Sherpa and former NITI Aayog CEO, Amitabh Kant has said that Odisha has a lot of potential for tourism. The dishes, beaches, backwaters, heritage and architecture present here make it a unique state in India.
On Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, he further said that there is a need for a strong private sector and last mile connectivity.
Speaking at the event, Principal Secretary, Industries Department, Odisha, Hemant Sharma said that our focus is on technology and sectors with high manpower demand. We had gone to four countries to invest in the state in the last one year, but in the last three days investors from about 20 countries have come to us.
He further said that the government’s focus is on value addition in garments, textile, chemical, petrochemical, packaging, food processing and minerals. Keeping in view the interest of investors, the government is working on creating more infrastructure in the state.
Prerena Bhardwaj of Gerrard Cross Town Council in the United Kingdom (UK), who came to the Pravasi Bharatiya event, said that India has developed very rapidly in the last few years. The roads here are much better and in many ways better than Birmingham. He further said that there are many investment opportunities here. Indians settled abroad want to come here and invest and are also getting a lot of support from the government.
Meanwhile, Joshna Surin, CMD of Bharat Hotels Limited, said that in the last few years, there has been a lot of improvement in the road to railway infrastructure in the country. Many new airports have been built in the country, which has improved airline connectivity. This has supported development.
