The total number of wireless consumers in urban areas, which was 633.29 million on April 30, 2025, increased to 634.91 million on 31 May, 2025.

During this period, membership in rural areas also increased from 533.14 million to 533.51 million. According to data from the Ministry of Communications, the monthly growth rate in the number of urban and rural wireless consumers was 0.25 percent and 0.07 percent respectively.

Wireless (mobile) tele-density in India rose from 82.01 percent in late April to 82.10 percent in late May.

The urban wireless tele-denseness rose from 123.85 percent to 124.03 percent in late April and during the same period rural tele-denseness increased from 58.57 percent to 58.58 percent.

In the end of May, the total wireless (mobile) customers had urban and rural wireless (mobile) customers’ share of 54.30 percent and 45.70 percent respectively.

According to the data, “By May 31, private access service providers had 92.14 percent market share of wireless (mobile) customer base, while two PSU access service providers, BSNL and MTNL had market share of 7.86 percent.”

Machine-to-machine (M2M) Cellular mobile connections increased from 69.87 million to 73.91 million at the end of April 2025 to 73.91 million.
